Julie N. W. Goodridge
Julie Goodridge is the President and founder of NorthStar Asset Management, Inc. She has been a social investment professional in the Boston area since 1985, a financial advisor since 1983, and is a board member of the Social Investment Forum. Julie has conducted seminars for individuals on socially responsible investing, women and money, choosing an investment advisor, monitoring investment progress, budgeting, and shareholder activism offered through the Funding Exchange, Haymarket People's Fund, the Boston Women's Fund, Community Capital Bank, the Boston Community Loan Fund and Cambridge Center for Adult Education. She has been a guest on several public television programs where she has discussed women's financial concerns and investment strategies. Her interest in socially responsible investing stems from prior work as a community organizer for ACORN (the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now).
Her activist background provided her with an awareness of the socially responsible aspects of investment decisions while an Assistant Vice-President at Dean Witter Reynolds, and stockbroker at EF Hutton and Merrill Lynch. She is currently on the finance committee of the New World Foundation in New York and on the board of the Mass Equality Foundation. Julie was one of the lead plaintiffs in the legal case, Goodridge v. Massachusetts Dept. of Public Health, that won marriage rights for same sex couples in Massachusetts. She holds a B.A. from Boston University and an Ed.M. from Harvard University.
Julie is very excited about her new Endless Pool, likes riding on Ziplines and only eats the blue M&Ms.
Margaret J. Covert
Margaret Covert, Shareholder Activism Coordinator at NorthStar Asset Management, manages shareholder activism and services, in addition to conducting corporate accountability research and writing NorthStar's quarterly newsletter. A NorthStar employee since 1993, her background in non-profit management and political activism informs her perspective on social investing. Margaret focused on shareholder issues as a student at Mount Holyoke College during the height of the South African divestiture movement and while working for Women's Action for Nuclear Disarmament.
Margaret has worked with many non-profit, social change organizations including the Boston Women's Fund, Haymarket People's Fund, Pro-Choice Massachusetts, the Reproductive Rights Network, Planned Parenthood, and the Washington D.C. Rape Crisis Center. Ms. Covert holds a B.A. from Mount Holyoke College and a Masters in Public Policy and Citizen Participation from Tufts University.
Marg enjoys watching The Daily Show, and spends many hours chauffeuring her daughters to and from soccer games.
Christine Jantz, CFA
Christine Jantz, NorthStar's Investment Analyst, joined the company in 2008 to provide analysis and reviews of the investment process and procedures. She is the Chief Investment Officer and Portfolio Manager for a boutique quantitative investment firm she co-founded in 2002, Jantz Morgan LLC. Prior to starting Jantz Morgan, Christine was a member of the Global Equity Portfolio Management Team for Quantitative Funds at Grantham, Mayo, Van Otterloo & Co. LLC (GMO). Her education includes an MBA in Financial Management from the MIT Sloan School of Management, and she also holds an MS in Statistics from the University of Iowa and a BA in Mathematical Sciences from Bethel College. Christine is Treasurer of the Arthur D. Little Alumni Association. Having been a beneficiary of Julie Goodridge's efforts promoting gay marriage in Massachusetts, Christine's quest to explore socially responsible investing and how she might contribute from a "numbers standpoint" led her to her current work with NorthStar.
Chris is a math geek from Liberal, Kansas.
Mari Mather
Assistant for Client Services and Shareholder Advocacy at NorthStar Asset Management, Inc., Mari joined NorthStar Asset Management, Inc. in 2008. She interfaces with all clients, coordinates fund journal and transfers, and works with Margaret Covert on shareholder activism. Before NorthStar, she worked in client services and administration at educational institutions for nearly seven years, providing excellent service, student oversight, and detailed record coordination. Mari holds a B.A. in Women's Studies from the University of Central Florida, and an M.A. in Gender/Cultural Studies from Simmons College.
Mari is studying Hebrew, and is an avid and experimental baker.
Nikki Rivera
Systems and Data Analyst at NorthStar Asset Management, Inc. since 2006, Nikki has over ten years' experience providing high-level organizational and logistical assistance within the non-profit sector. She handles data reconciliation, built and maintains NorthStar's website, and generally solves problems. She holds a B.A. in Community Studies/Social Work from the University of California, and thrives on creating order out of chaos.
Nikki has a great fondness for three-toed sloths and Anderson Cooper.
